Our verdict
A good choice for heating one normal room cheaply.
Varmo is small, simple and low-powered. If you spend most evenings in one room and want to stop heating the whole house, it does that job for about 16p an hour at full power. It isn't built for big open-plan spaces.
Best for
- Living rooms and bedrooms
- Home offices
- Older relatives (remote, big display)
Not for
- Large open-plan spaces
- Very draughty rooms
- Heating the whole house

What we looked at
Power
600 W. Enough for one normal room with the door closed. Gentler than a 2,000 W fan heater, so it won't blast a big cold space.
Running cost
About 15.8p an hour at full power at the Ofgem cap rate of 26.32p per kWh. Less once the thermostat switches off.
Controls
Touch panel, clear LED display, remote and a 6–12 hour auto-off timer. Easy to use from your chair.
Safety
Overheat cut-out, cool-touch casing, CE and UKCA marked. Plugs straight into the wall, so there's no trailing cable.
Ease of use
Nothing to install. The UK plug rotates 270° to fit upright or sideways sockets.
Value
£59.00 for one, down to £43.75 each in a 4-pack, with free tracked UK delivery and a money-back guarantee.

Final verdict: is Varmo worth it?
If you want to heat the room you're actually sitting in, without paying to heat the rest of the house, Varmo is a simple, low-cost way to do it. It's honest about its limits: one normal room, not an open-plan floor. And with free delivery and a money-back guarantee, you can try it on your own meter.
What should a useful heater review tell me?
Look for the setting in which the heater was used. A helpful account describes the room, approximate starting conditions, the chosen temperature and how long the person stayed there. Whether doors were open and whether other heating was running can change the result. Without that context, a statement that a heater worked brilliantly says little about your home.
Useful feedback also separates comfort from energy use. Feeling warmer is not the same as proving a lower bill. A reviewer who mentions a smart meter should explain what else was running and whether gas use changed. You do not need a scientific report from every customer. You do need enough detail to see whether their experience is relevant, and whether a cost claim is a measurement or just an impression.
Can I trust reviews that promise huge heating savings?
Be cautious when a review claims a small resistance heater makes the same heat using a tiny fraction of the electricity. Direct electric heaters are all close to 100% efficient at turning electricity into heat where they are used. Lower power means less heat per hour, not free extra warmth.
Savings can come from changing the heating routine: warming an occupied room instead of heating more space, choosing an appropriate temperature and avoiding needless running. That is different from a product-specific efficiency breakthrough. Ask what the writer compared, over what period and at which energy prices. If they give a percentage without a clear baseline, treat it as unproven. A claim about one household should not become a promise that every buyer will see the same reduction.
How can I spot a fake heater review website?
Check who runs the site and whether it earns money from sales or referral links. A page that looks like a newspaper article may actually be an advert. Disclosure does not automatically make an opinion false, but the commercial relationship should be clear. Look beyond an official-sounding name or a badge claiming expert approval.
Warning signs include identical wording across supposedly unrelated sites, generic praise with no practical detail, unnamed tests and dramatic savings without working. Reverse image searches can help you check whether an alleged customer photograph appears elsewhere. Do not assume that every unfamiliar reviewer is fake, or that a critical comment is dishonest. Look for a pattern of evidence. A convincing review can discuss drawbacks and uncertainty without pushing you towards an immediate purchase.
Does verified purchase mean a review is independent?
A verified-purchase label usually refers to a check connecting the reviewer with an order. It does not prove that every statement is accurate, that the review was unpaid or that the reviewer used the heater for a long time. Verification methods differ between platforms, so read the explanation of the label where one is available.
Check whether the reviewer received a free item, a discount or another incentive. Such feedback may still contain useful observations, but the relationship matters. Dates matter too: an account written immediately after unpacking cannot establish durability over winter. A balanced picture needs more than one unusually positive or negative experience. With no verified Varmo feedback published here yet, we cannot claim patterns about reliability, customer service or long-term performance based on buyers.
