Features, and why they matter
ThermoLock thermostat
Choose any temperature from 15 to 32°C. Varmo switches off when the room gets there and back on when it cools, so you're not paying to overheat the room.
Ceramic plate, warm in seconds
The PTC ceramic plate reaches full heat in about 8 seconds. Most normal rooms feel cosy within 10–15 minutes.
Quiet fan
A gentle fan moves the warm air around the room rather than leaving it in one spot by the wall.
Remote control
Change the temperature or timer without getting up. Handy if bending down to a socket is a chore.
6–12 hour auto-off
Set it and Varmo switches itself off. A useful back-up, though you should still switch it off before sleep or going out.
Rotating UK plug
The plug turns 270°, so Varmo sits upright on almost any wall socket. No trailing cable to trip over.
Who Varmo is great for

The living room
Keep the room you sit in warm while the rest of the house stays cooler.

The bedroom, before bed
Take the chill off while you get ready, then switch off.

The home office
Heat just the room you work in, not the whole house.

Older relatives
Big display, a remote and nothing to install.
Probably not the right heater if:
- You want to heat a large open-plan space
- The room is very draughty or single-glazed
- You'd need an extension lead to reach a socket

Will a 600 W heater suit my room?
Think about the room before the controls. A small study with a closed door keeps heat differently from a draughty lounge with an open staircase. Ceiling height, outside walls, windows and the starting temperature all affect the result. A room described as normal-sized is not a precise heating calculation.
Varmo is intended for one normal room, with warmth described as developing in around 10–15 minutes. Treat that as a guide, not a deadline or a guaranteed temperature rise. If heat escapes faster than 600 W can replace it, the heater may run continuously without reaching your chosen setting. For a large open-plan area, seek a properly sized heating solution rather than assuming extra plug-in units will solve the problem.
Does turning the temperature up make Varmo heat faster?
A higher target tells the thermostat to keep calling for heat for longer. It does not turn a 600 W appliance into a more powerful one. Setting 32°C will not provide a special burst of extra heat compared with a lower setting while the element is already heating at full power.
Start with a setting that feels comfortable, then allow the room to settle before changing it. Repeated adjustments make it harder to judge what suits you. Use a separate room thermometer if you want to compare comfort at your chair with the temperature near the heater. These can differ because air moves and warm air rises. There is no evidence here of a guaranteed temperature accuracy across the whole room, and the display should not be read as a measurement at every seat.
Where should I put a wall plug heater?
Check the location before you order. You need an accessible, sound wall socket with space around the heater for air to enter and leave. Curtains, bedding, a sofa and stored items must not obstruct it. Follow the clearances in the supplied manual rather than guessing a safe distance from a photograph.
The rotating plug helps you orient the unit, but it does not make every socket suitable. A recessed socket, crowded double socket or position close to a shelf may still be unsuitable. Do not force the heater into place or support its weight with an adaptor. Plug it directly into the wall, not an extension lead. If the socket is loose, damaged, discoloured or becomes unusually hot, stop using it and have it checked by a qualified electrician.
Can I use Varmo while I work from home?
A single occupied room is a sensible use to consider. Close the door where practical and make sure papers, clothing and bags cannot cover the unit. Keep your normal ventilation arrangements working. Holding warmth does not mean sealing every vent or ignoring damp.
Think about your routine as well as the room. If you leave for lunch or a meeting, switch the heater off rather than using the timer as permission to leave it unattended. The remote may save getting up, but check the display when you change a setting. If several people use the room, agree a comfortable target rather than repeatedly raising it. Varmo can be a local source of warmth; it is not a reason to let other occupied rooms become uncomfortably cold.
Is the casing safe to touch when the heater is on?
The specified cool-touch casing and overheat cut-out are useful safeguards. They are not a promise that every part remains cold, or that a blocked appliance cannot present a risk. Keep fingers and objects away from openings. Children and anyone who may not understand the controls need appropriate supervision.
Do not use the heater to dry washing or warm bedding. Keep it away from water and do not assume it is bathroom-rated: no bathroom suitability rating is supplied here. Switch it off before unplugging, and let it cool before handling or cleaning as the manual directs. If it smells burnt, shows damage or repeatedly cuts out, stop using it. Do not keep resetting a fault or attempt to repair the appliance yourself.
What should I expect from the fan and remote?
The product specification calls the fan silent. That wording is not an independent sound test or a published decibel measurement. People notice sound differently, especially in a quiet bedroom, so we cannot promise that every user will hear nothing. If you are sensitive to appliance noise, consider that uncertainty before buying.
The remote and touch panel offer different ways to adjust settings. Before giving the heater to someone else, show them how to recognise the chosen temperature and switch it off using the instructions. Make sure the wall socket is still reachable if the remote is misplaced. Check the supplied manual for battery requirements and replacement instructions; no battery type or inclusion is promised here. Ease of use is best judged against the needs of the person actually using it.
How can I tell whether the heater is working well?
Judge comfort over a normal occupied session, not by holding your hand beside the outlet. Note the starting room temperature, the target and whether doors were open. Check again after the room has had time to warm. A heater that feels hot at the grille may still be too small for a room losing a lot of heat.
Avoid treating earlier references to ten minutes of heating per hour as a fixed operating pattern. Thermostat cycling varies with weather, insulation and the temperature you choose. It may run much longer in a cold room. Likewise, no element lifespan or precise whole-room temperature stability is established by the specifications alone. Keep your order record and ask support if the controls do not behave as the manual describes, rather than trying unsafe workarounds.
Pros and cons
Good points
- Low 600 W draw: about 15.8p an hour at full power
- Exact temperature from 15 to 32°C
- Remote control for adjusting from your chair
- Plugs into the wall with no trailing cable
- Full heat at the plate in about 8 seconds
- Overheat cut-out and cool-touch casing
Things to know
- Made for one normal room, not open-plan spaces
- Needs a clear wall socket (no extension leads)
- Gentler heat than a 2–3 kW heater in a very cold room
Who it is not for
We'd rather you buy the right heater than return the wrong one. Varmo is probably not for you if:
- You need a primary heater for a large open-plan space.
- Your only available socket is behind furniture or beside curtains.
- You want guaranteed savings without changing how you heat your home.
